Urgent Sudan Statement

The UK Government has been evacuating British nationals out of Sudan due to the ongoing conflict there. I thank the Foreign Secretary for the work he has done so far but I am worried about those who are being left behind.

The husband of one of my constituents is currently stranded in Sudan while he waits for a decision on his family reunion visa. The visa application has already been in progress for over a year. He is also unable to seek safety in a neighbouring country as the British Embassy currently has his Sudanese passport as part of his visa application.

I asked the Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, what is being done to help people in situations like that of my constituent’s husband. I was disappointed with the vague response and I believe more concrete action is needed to help those waiting on visa decisions in Sudan.
