PRIVACY STATEMENT
As the Member of Parliament for Birmingham Selly Oak I think it is important to engage with as many of my constituents as possible. I do this in different ways, (meetings, letters, advice bureaux, email, telephone and social media) and for a number of reasons – to ask for constituent’s views on local and national issues; to invite constituents to meeting and events; to update constituents on my work in Parliament and the constituency and to increase awareness of my advice bureaux.
I only use personal data that is given to me by constituents or that is publically available such as the Electoral Register which I am legally entitled to access.
I take issues of privacy seriously and will seek to improve efforts to protect your information and will update my privacy policy when necessary.
When registering with my website or by completing a form or survey sent to you by my office, you may be asked for personal information. In each case, I will ask for your explicit consent to use your information, and I will only use it for the purposes for which you provide it.
I may communicate by post, email, phone or text message about my work and to give you the latest news on my campaigns and opportunities to get involved. I have a legal entitlement to the full electoral register for my constituency, which includes the full name and address of every registered elector and I may write to you in connection with my activities as your elected representative. You can amend or withdraw your consent to receive these updates at any time. Further detailed information is below.
casework
When I take up casework on your behalf, it may be necessary for me or my office to share personal details that you provide such as your telephone number and email address, with government departments, local authorities, public bodies and other organisations. I will only share as much information as is necessary to progress your case.
Data collection and use
You may be asked for personal information if you complete one of the forms on this site. By filling in your personal contact details and providing Steve McCabe MP with information about your views, you consent to allowing Steve McCabe MP and his staff to use the information you’ve given, as well as other information to which we have an entitlement, to contact you by email, text, phone, websites and apps even though you may be registered with the Telephone Preference Service.
In each case the information you provide will only be used for the purpose for which you provide it. Any personal information you submit via this website is stored on secure servers (including mobile servers), password protected computers, password protected folders and encrypted zip files.
Steve McCabe MP may need to transfer personal information you submit to a data processor or to countries or jurisdictions outside the EEA. All our suppliers comply with the General Data Protection Regulation and provide adequate protection for the rights of data individuals in connection to the transfer of their personal data within the European Union, or are subject to Privacy Shield scheme in the United States.
Any data you supply will be held for a maximum period of seven years, unless there are justifiable reasons for holding it for longer (for example, if casework on your behalf if ongoing for longer than this period). You may remove or change your details at any time and have right of access to your personal information held on our files by written request to the data protection officer (address below).
Unsubscribe
I provide you with the opportunity to opt-out of receiving communications from me easily and promptly. The majority of unsubscribe requests are processed immediately; in some cases it will take up to one week.
IP addresses and log file data
My website site does not automatically capture or store personal information, other than logging the user’s IP Address or the location of your computer or network on the Internet, for systems administration and troubleshooting purposes. I use IP addresses in the aggregate to track which pages people visit in order to improve the quality of my website.
To volunteer or Join my team
We ask for your contact details, postcode and sometimes for details of the type of volunteer activity that you are interested in, e.g delivering newsletters; helping at events etc. Your details will be forwarded to the appropriate member of my team who can then contact you.
Cookie
A cookie is a tiny text file that is stored on your computer. We may use cookies in order to tailor your experience on our site according to the preferences you have specified. However we will only access the information that we stored in your cookie file. We will not access any information stored in a cookie by other websites.
