Steve McCabe has been a Birmingham MP since 1997. He was born and brought up in Port Glasgow. He trained as a social worker and worked with young offenders before moving to Wolverhampton. He’s spent most of his life in Birmingham. He also lectured and was an Adviser for Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work before he became an MP.
At Westminster he has continued to fight for people in Birmingham. He has served on the Home Affairs Select Committee, pressuring the government on its cuts to policing. Since 2009 there are almost 20,000 fewer police on our nations streets.
He since served on Work and Pensions Select Committee which he joined because of his view that we need new models of welfare if we are to preserve the essence of the Welfare State.
Steve thoroughly enjoys representing constituents as the MP for Birmingham Selly Oak. He tells it like it is and stands up for his constituents. You might not always agree with him but he’ll listen and he’ll be straight.
