Steve McCabe MP (Birmingham, Selly Oak), Chair of All-Party Group on Retail Crime has expressed his revulsion at the news of the brutal Sunday morning stabbing of a NW London shopkeeper.
He said, “Only last week the Retail Crime group met for one of our regular parliamentary updates and discussed what else should be done to tackle the scourge of shop crime. It’s already running at 115 assaults per day and is costing the industry 20% of annual profits according to the latest report of the British Retail Consortium. This was a hard-working family man, deliberately targeted because of what he did for a living. If things are allowed to carry on like this there will eventually be no small shops and no retail services after dark outside main town centres. It’s time for a much tougher response.”
