Steve McCabe MP meets England footballer Nikita Parris to talk about campaign to encourage young people to take up sport

Steve McCabe MP met with campaigners to discuss the important work that is being carried out by B Active in their campaign to engage 16-24 year olds across the UK in physical activity.

Steve was delighted to meet England forward Nikita Parris and talk about the campaign to encourage more young people into sport. So far B Active’s youth- led programmes have engaged over 4,000 16-24 year olds in physical activity to promote sport and physical activity that can boost self-confidence, give young people a sense of purpose and a way to gain new skills, build a sense of community and work as a stepping stone to encouraging volunteering.

Through B Active, participants have been able to develop new skills, find employment opportunities and discover alternative pathways to education. More than 700 volunteers have earned accredited qualifications, a third of whom have then gone on to secure employment through B Active. Plans to extending the program to Birmingham have already been made.

Steve has said:

“It was great to meet Nikita, volunteers and young participants and learn about their important work in getting young people active. I am very excited to be following their future plans to extend the programme to Birmingham.”
