Steve McCabe MP (Birmingham, Selly Oak) has joined MPs, Councillors and Trade Union representatives from across the West Midlands, along with Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn, calling for an end to the Government’s disastrous austerity policy which has seen Birmingham City Council lose around 50% of its budget.

“The Government has lost the plot when it comes to tackling crime”, says local MP

Today the National Audit Office has published a report revealing that the Government has no real “national picture of what [police] forces need”, “no common standards for measuring all demands for police services” and that, as a result, the existing funding formula for police services is not fit for purpose. The report says that “there are signs emerging that forces are finding it harder to deliver an effective service” and this is something Steve McCabe MP (Birmingham, Selly Oak) says is reflected in the experiences of his constituents.

PM spurns MP’s request to stop 1 million children losing school meals

At PMQs today, Steve McCabe MP drew attention to research by The Children’s Society showing how one million children are set to lose their free school meals under the Government’s Universal Credit proposals. He called on the PM to show some Christmas cheer and intervene.
