For National Allotments Week, Steve McCabe MP went to visit the site of the new community garden being developed at the Greenaleigh Road Allotments.
Greenaleigh Community Garden is being created by Billesley-based charity PlayGROUND, set up to support the local community and environment by delivering art, horticulture and ecology projects. Greenaleigh Community Garden is their first project, a garden to encourage contact with nature and community cohesion, provide opportunities to grow produce and to learn new skills. The garden is set to include a pond, greenhouse and an educational workshop space.
Steve met James and Tricia from PlayGROUND to discuss their plans for Greenaleigh Community Garden, how the project will bring the community together and provide opportunities to gain skills and training. The garden is on track to being open to the public by Spring 2021.
Steve McCabe MP said:
“Gardening has shown countless benefits to both physical and mental health, with the added benefit of providing you with fresh produce to put on your plates.
I am thrilled that the Greenaleigh Community Garden is coming along so well. My constituents in Yardley Wood and beyong will really benefit from this new community greenspace ”
