Christmas has come early for Steve McCabe, MP for Birmingham Selly Oak, as he launches his annual Christmas card competition for local primary schools.
Steve has run his Christmas card competition for many years now, with children from schools across the constituency sending in their designs and competing for a range of prizes. Many of the schools taking part set the competition as homework for the October half-term, giving the children something to look forward to as the winter begins to draw in. Once all the entries are in, the winning design will be chosen to feature on Steve’s official Christmas card, which is sent to people in the constituency and across the country.
This year the competition, which is sponsored by Davisons Solicitors and Oakton Estate Agents, is calling on Year 5 pupils to design a Christmas card about what Christmas means to them. In 2018 over 15 primary schools took part and Steve is expecting even more schools to join the fun this year. As well as an exciting top prize for the author of the winning design, there are also plenty of prizes up for grabs for runners-up and for winners picked from each individual school that takes part. Prize up for grabs so far include Cadbury World, Mr Mulligan’s, Teamworks Karting, Snowdome, Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum, Dudley Zoo, and Rock Climbing at the University of Birmingham Sport and Fitness Centre, with many more expected before the competition closes in November.

“I’ve asked children to design a Christmas card design picturing what Christmas means to them and I’m looking forward to seeing the creativity of our children demonstrated once again.”
“I would like to thank Davisons Solicitors and Oakton Estate Agents for sponsoring my Christmas card this year; it’s great to work with local businesses on projects like this and it wouldn’t be possible to do it without them.”
