The announcement comes over a month after the Scottish Government secured a deal with Vertex to provide patients in Scotland access to life-changing treatments including Orkambi. The deal will allow patients in England who qualify to access Orkambi, Symkevi and Kalydeco which will transform the lives of thousands of people with cystic fibrosis, including his constituent Anna Bennett’s 4 year old daughter.
Steve has been urging the Health Secretary to secure access to this life changing drug for patients in England for some time and has been raising awareness of the issue in Parliament and in the media.
Steve said:
“It is amazing to hear that finally a deal has been agreed to provide Orkambi on the NHS to help thousands of people living with Cystic Fibrosis. It is fantastic to see such a powerful and successful campaign change so many lives. Thank you to all of those who were involved in this fight, I hope today will bring comfort to all my constituents and their families”
