Steve McCabe MP for Birmingham Selly Oak is holding a Jobs Fair on 27 September 2019 to showcase employment and training opportunities in a bid to tackle the constituencies above average unemployment rate.
The MP is particularly concerned about figures released in September 2019 reporting 6.7% of people in the Selly Oak constituency were currently unemployed compared to 3.7% of people nationally. Steve McCabe has also heard from constituents and charities that gaining access to employment is particularly challenging when you have a disability, and that this holds many people back from achieving their potential.
Steve McCabe MP is holding a Jobs Fair on 27 September at the Hub Hazelwell from 1pm to bring together a range of national and local employers. The Jobs Fair will advertise live job vacancies, information about apprenticeships and training and there will also be help with your CV and interview techniques. Steve McCabe wants to ensure there are opportunities for everyone so there will be employers signed up to the Disability Confident Scheme as well as information on Access to Work.
There will be a wide range of employers at the event including Mondelez, West Midlands Police, HSBC, Severn Trent, Bournville Village Trust and Aldi. There will also be a range of stalls providing careers advice and discussing training programmes including South and City College, the National Careers Service and the Brandwood Train to Gain scheme.
