Today (25 July 2018) marks Louise Brown’s 40th Birthday. Why is this special? Louise was the first baby to be born via IVF treatment, a moment which started a revolution in infertility treatment and has given so many parents hope of conceiving a child.

 

Fast forward 40 years and this pioneering treatment is being rationed by many NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups, entrenching a postcode lottery system that is leaving countless couples heartbroken and facing huge bills to pursue treatment privately. 

 

There is massive local opposition to the massive 17.5 meter phone mast which is to be located in a prominent location on the corner of Heath Road and Hawthorne Road in Bournville. Local residents have come together to form BRAM – Bournville Residents Against the Mast – and are protesting this week to stop the phone mast.

 

Steve McCabe, MP for Birmingham Selly Oak has today described charges to retrieve stolen goods as ‘outrageous’.

 

After being contacted by a number of constituents who have recently been burgled, Steve discovered that victims of crime are being charged hundreds of pounds to recover their stolen cars once found and seized by the police. Depending on the size of the car stolen people can expect to be charged up to £350 per vehicle meaning that when a number of vehicles are stolen the costs mount up.

 

To mark National Toothache Day on 9 February, Steve McCabe MP is stepping up his calls for urgent action to tackle the scandal of childhood tooth decay. He’s further highlighting an issue which sees 160 youngsters having their teeth taken out under anaesthesia in England every day.

Steve McCabe, MP for Birmingham Selly Oak, is continuing his fight for fairer access to IVF treatment by introducing a 10 minute Rule Bill. He is planning to introduce legislation to guarantee fair access to IVF across England and to equalise the cost of the procedures across the NHS.

Member of Parliament for Birmingham Selly Oak, Steve McCabe, said today he is not surprised by the announcement that crime is rising.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics have revealed that recorded crime has risen by 14% in the last year, with violent crime rising by 20%. The figures also show a worrying rise in knife and gun related crime, which supports figures released last year which reported that possession of a weapon offences had increased by 19% in the West Midlands.

In his latest efforts to highlight the scandal of childhood tooth decay, which currently accounts for 160 youngsters having their teeth taken out under anaesthesia in England every day, local MP, Steve McCabe has written to the Chancellor pressing him to take immediate action to tackle the problem. In his letter, which has been co-signed by MPs from every party in Westminster, he has called on the Chancellor to utilise some of the money from the Soft Drinks Industry Levy to support a new national preventative oral health programme.

Steve McCabe MP recently visited Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s interventional radiology department to see first-hand how the innovative treatment of delivered there can save lives and money in the NHS.
