Main purpose of Job: Constituency Intern

Main responsibilities for the intern will be:

-          Assist constituency office in providing advice and support to constituents and stakeholders

-          Liaise with external agencies to resolve matters on behalf of constituents and others

Steve McCabe MP and local Billesley Councillors are hosting a Jobs Fair at Moseley Rugby Club, Billesley Common, Yardley Wood Road on Thursday 13 November, drop in from 1-4pm.


Steve McCabe MP (Selly Oak MP and Shadow Minister for Children and Families)joined the national charity, the Dyspraxia Foundation as it launched the results of a new survey highlighting the huge levels of anxiety, fear or even dread felt by hundreds of secondary school children living with the developmental co-ordination disorder, dyspraxia.


Statistics reveal that 4.9% of the economically active population in Selly Oak are now claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance compared to 4.7% in August 2014. Selly Oak constituency continues to remain in the top 20% of constituencies for unemployment across the country.


The Equality and Human Rights Commission has launched a major call for evidence from individuals and religious organisations about the impact of religion in the workplace. As part of its mandate from Parliament, the Commission will look at the adequacy of the current legal framework for protecting rights to religion and belief. The aim of the review is to ensure that people’s right to be treated with fairness and respect is made a reality for employees, service users, employers and service providers.



Dedicated to providing opportunities for young people to gain exposure to the food and grocery industry, the Feeding Britain’s Future campaignis led by research charity IGD and provides unemployed youngsters with access to workshops in farms, factories and stores.



Tesco representatives have told Steve they have still not acquired all the land needed to start demolition work on the site and there are still outstanding Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) issues. They say that once these have been resolved they will publish a timetable for when work is expected to start and when they hope the store will open.

Borrowing totalled £11.4 billion over the month, higher than the £10.7 billion forecast by economists, and £3.8 billion more than in June 2013.


Commenting on the figures, Steve McCabe, MP for Birmingham Selly Oak, said:


Students at Baverstock are taking part in the Send All My Friends to School Campaign run by the Global Campaign for Education. Steve was really impressed by the students campaign and told them how he had visited Mozambique and children there had to get up at 4’oclock in the morning to walk miles to school.




The Royal Mail is campaigning to reduce the number of dog attacks on postal workers and to encourage responsible dog ownership during Dog Awareness Week which runs to the 4 July.


Steve McCabe MP is working with Royal Mail in encouraging dogs owners to play their part in reducing the number of incidents.
