To mark National Toothache Day on 9 February, Steve McCabe MP is stepping up his calls for urgent action to tackle the scandal of childhood tooth decay. He’s further highlighting an issue which sees 160 youngsters having their teeth taken out under anaesthesia in England every day.

Steve McCabe, MP for Birmingham Selly Oak, is continuing his fight for fairer access to IVF treatment by introducing a 10 minute Rule Bill. He is planning to introduce legislation to guarantee fair access to IVF across England and to equalise the cost of the procedures across the NHS.

Member of Parliament for Birmingham Selly Oak, Steve McCabe, said today he is not surprised by the announcement that crime is rising.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics have revealed that recorded crime has risen by 14% in the last year, with violent crime rising by 20%. The figures also show a worrying rise in knife and gun related crime, which supports figures released last year which reported that possession of a weapon offences had increased by 19% in the West Midlands.

In his latest efforts to highlight the scandal of childhood tooth decay, which currently accounts for 160 youngsters having their teeth taken out under anaesthesia in England every day, local MP, Steve McCabe has written to the Chancellor pressing him to take immediate action to tackle the problem. In his letter, which has been co-signed by MPs from every party in Westminster, he has called on the Chancellor to utilise some of the money from the Soft Drinks Industry Levy to support a new national preventative oral health programme.

Steve McCabe MP recently visited Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s interventional radiology department to see first-hand how the innovative treatment of delivered there can save lives and money in the NHS.

The Premier League’s national primary school programme, Premier League Primary Stars, draws upon the excitement of the Premier League and young people’s interest in football to help inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.

At PMQs today, Steve McCabe MP drew attention to research by The Children’s Society showing how one million children are set to lose their free school meals under the Government’s Universal Credit proposals. He called on the PM to show some Christmas cheer and intervene. 

Steve McCabe MP (Birmingham Selly Oak) has joined national charity Electrical Safety First to raise awareness of the dangers surrounding the purchase and use of discount chargers and other electrical products that although cheaper, can also be less safe to use.

 

Steve McCabe MP for Birmingham, Selly Oak joined hundreds of bikers from across the region yesterday for a Charity Bike Ride to deliver presents to children and families at Ronald McDonald House at Birmingham Children’s Hospital

The Charity ride set off from Street Bike in Halesowen to the Ronald McDonald House at Birmingham. The mass ride is just one of a series of fundraising events organised by enthusiastic bikers from across the Midlands and further afield.

Steve McCabe MP (Birmingham Selly Oak) has signed an early day motion (EDM 647) calling on the Government to sign the Blue Belt Charter and to reaffirm the UK’s leadership in ocean conservation.
